Hello everyone! Welcome to my artistic journey into the world of DIY design. Today, I’m thrilled to walk you through my latest project: the Solly’s Glass Plaster Dream Design. This project combines the whimsical beauty of decoupage with the versatility of glass plaster, resulting in an eye-catching piece that’s both elegant and unique. Join me as I share every detail of our creative process, from a reverse decoupage application to stencilling with glass plaster!

Reverse Decoupage Application:

First I placed the glass panel on top of the decoupage paper, carefully centring the elements I wanted to focus on. Using the straight edges of the glass as a guide, I cut out the section I wanted to use. Since I would be covering the entire canvas, I wanted clean, straight edges to ensure a neat finish. This attention to detail sets the stage for a beautiful final piece.

Given that I was working with glass, I opted for a reverse decoupage application. This technique allows the decoupage’s design to be visible through the glass, creating a polished and professional look. I began the reverse decoupage application by applying a layer of Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor to one half of the glass panel. Using a Posh Chalk Large Smooth & Blend Brush, I spread the infusor evenly across the surface, making sure not to miss any spots.

Once the infusor was applied, I smoothed one half of the decoupage section face down onto the glass. Starting from the center, I used a dry Posh Chalk Large Smooth & Blend Brush to gently press the paper down, working my way outward to avoid any creases or air bubbles. This smoothed application is key to ensuring the decoupage adheres well and looks flawless when viewed from the other side.

After I was satisfied with the first half, I repeated the process for the other half of the decoupage paper. Working one half at a time made it easy to manage any potential creases, as the paper can be lifted off of the surface and smoothed back down if needed.

Once both halves were adhered, the next step was to seal everything in place. I applied more Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor on top of the decoupage paper using swirling brush strokes and applying firm pressure. This step ensured that the glass and decoupage were fully bound together, preventing any peeling or lifting in the future.

To speed up drying, I carefully used a heat gun, keeping it at a safe distance to avoid damaging the glass. Once dry, I took a moment to admire the vibrant colors of the decoupage shining through the glass—it was already looking fantastic!

Next, I focused on the edges where the decoupage paper slightly overhung beyond my glass panel. I gently sanded these edges, which allowed me to tear off the excess paper easily. This gave my project a clean and polished finish.

Now that the decoupage was set, I moved on to my next important step—applying a white base coat of paint. For this scene, I opted for Posh Chalk White Titanium Metallic Paste. A white background enhances the colors of the decoupage, helping each design element pop when viewed through the glass.

Using a Posh Chalk Small Smooth & Blend Brush, I carefully applied the metallic paste across the decoupage section. To help the paste spread further, I lightly spritzed the surface with a fine mist of water.

As I worked, I could already see the transformative effect of the base coat; the colours looked vibrant and alive, providing a striking contrast to the areas that remained unpainted. I force-dried this layer with my heat gun, ready to continue on with my creative process.

Stencilling with Glass Plaster:

Now comes my favourite part—stencilling! I wanted to add texture and depth to my piece using Glass Plaster, which I decided to tint with a beautiful blue shade. I began by decanting some glass plaster into a convenient small tub, preparing for the next phase.

I added just a single drop of Posh Chalk Aegean Ocean Colour Kick to the plaster. The Colour Kick’s highly pigmented colour means a little goes a long way; too much could make the plaster completely opaque, which is not what I wanted. Mixing carefully, I stirred until the colour was evenly distributed throughout the plaster.

With my tinted plaster ready, I positioned the Posh Chalk Stained Glass Small Premium Stencil in the bottom right corner of my glass panel. Using a spoon, I placed some of the colored glass plaster on top of the stencil and began spreading it across the surface with a Posh Chalk Medium Premium Finishing Trowel. This tool made it convenient to apply an even thickness, ensuring the stencil’s details would be crisp and distinct.

While the plaster was still wet, I sprinkled Posh Chalk Diamond Dust over the stencilled areas. This glamorous addition would give the design a stunning shimmer once dry, enhancing the overall aesthetic.

After carefully peeling back the stencil, I was thrilled to see the final result—gorgeous coloured plaster accents glistening with diamond dust! I repeated this stencilling process on both sides of my glass canvas.

After completing the stencilling, I took a moment to step back and admire my creation. The combination of the tinted glass plaster and diamond dust created a rich, layered look that I absolutely loved. Each element worked harmoniously to bring the Solly’s Dream design to life!

Conclusion:

As I reflected on my work, I realised how fulfilling it was to see the project coming together. The vivid colours and textures transformed the simple glass panel into a beautiful work of art, one that I could proudly display or gift to someone special.
