Prepare to be swept away on a wave of vibrant hues and intricate designs! Today, we’re embarking on an exciting creative journey, taking a humble blank wooden board and elevating it to a stunning colourful masterpiece using the transformative power of WoodUbend decorative trims, perfectly paired with the richly pigmented and wonderfully adaptable products from Posh Chalk. Get ready to feel inspired as we delve into each thrilling stage of this artistic adventure!
Laying the Foundations
Our creative expedition begins with laying a flawless foundation. I reached for the incredibly useful Posh Chalk Smooth & Blend Brush and lovingly applied a generous base coat of Clear Sand by Magic Paint. This exquisite neutral tone acts as the perfect understated backdrop, allowing the vibrant colours we’ll introduce later to truly sing.
Next, I envisioned distinct visual zones on my board. The breathtaking Posh Chalk Rainbow Girl Deluxe Decoupage was going to be the focus of this colourful masterpiece! I carefully cut out the central figure, its kaleidoscope of colours promising to be a joyful focal point. Using this vibrant cut-out as my guide, I strategically placed two strips of tape vertically onto my board. This clever technique carved out a central space, perfectly sized for the decoupage, while leaving two equally proportioned sections on either side, eagerly awaiting some stencilling artistry!
Bringing My Design to Life with Stencils and Aqua Patinas
Now, let the colour explosion commence! I selected the captivating Posh Chalk Art Deco Fan Premium Stencil. This simple yet sophisticated design, a testament to the diverse offerings you can discover on the WoodUbend website, boasts a fantastic repeatable nature which makes it an absolute dream for filling larger areas with consistent beauty. I carefully positioned it onto one of the taped-off side sections and armed myself with a quartet of high-quality Posh Chalk Stencil Brushes, ensuring each dazzling colour had its own dedicated applicator.
I began stippling on streaks of Love, a truly passionate red; Vivre la Mer, evoking the deep allure of the ocean; Royal Green, a colour that exudes richness and elegance; and the familiar, grounding Clear Sand by Magic Paint from our base coat. The stippling method allows for the creation of beautifully textured streaks with slight blending where they intersect. Once I was satisfied with the dynamic arrangement of streaks that had emerged, I reached for the intensely pigmented Posh Chalk Aqua Patinas: the fiery Red Medium Cadmium, the profound Blue Fhthalo, the vibrant Primary Green, and the endlessly useful Snow White.
Here’s where the magic truly amplified! I stippled each Aqua Patina directly over its corresponding Magic Paint colour and with the corresponding Posh Chalk Stencil Brush. This immediately intensified the vibrancy of the hues and introduced a stunning, almost ethereal dimension to the design. To soften any harsh lines and encourage a graceful transition between colours, I picked up a dry Posh Chalk Wax Extender Brush and gently stippled, coaxing the colours to blend seamlessly.
The remarkable design of the Posh Chalk Premium Stencils being fully repeatable meant I could simply lift and reposition the stencil and repeat this enchanting stippling and blending process until both side sections of my board were alive with dynamic energy! However, in order to give my Posh Chalk Art Deco Fan Premium Stencil time to dry off in between uses, I moved onto my decoupage application first before repeating this process on the other side section.
Adhering the Decoupage with Pigment Infusor
With the two outer sections now radiating colour, it was time for the grand unveiling of the central stage. I carefully peeled away the strips of tape, revealing the perfectly defined space prepared for our captivating decoupage. To securely adhere the stunning Posh Chalk Rainbow Girl Deluxe Decoupage, I reached for the exceptional Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor. For optimal application, I ensured my surface was clean and dry before applying a thin and even layer of this fantastic product to the designated area with a Posh Chalk Smooth & Blend Brush.
Then I carefully positioned my section of decoupage paper onto the Infusor-coated surface. Using a Posh Chalk Smooth & Blend Brush I gently worked from the center outwards, smoothing away any wrinkles or trapped air bubbles. Then, to finalise the application, I applied another much more generous layer of Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor on top. Once this is allowed to dry completely, the Pigment Infusor acts as both a powerful adhesive and a protective sealant which guarantees a strong and enduring bond.
Following these simple steps my vibrant Rainbow Girl was flawlessly adhered to the centre of my board. I then used fine-grit sandpaper to delicately remove the slight margin of decoupage paper that extended beyond the top and bottom edges, resulting in a crisp and professional finish.
Adding Elegant Detail with WoodUbend Trim
Now, let’s introduce some exquisite three-dimensional detail with the incredible WoodUbend! I selected the elegant WoodUbend Trim TR749. I gently warmed the trim using my heat gun until it became flexible and easy to manipulate. Following this, I cut two strips that precisely matched the vertical length of my board.
Before adhering, I wanted these trims to echo the vibrant colour palette of the stencilled sections. I reached for the brilliant Posh Chalk White Titanium Metallic Paste and a Posh Chalk Mouldings Brush, applying two generous coats to achieve a truly vibrant white base. Then, mirroring the earlier stencilling process, I carefully stippled the same captivating Posh Chalk Aqua Patinas along both strips of trim. To introduce a touch of subtlety and create a harmonious flow, I incorporated the soft Posh Chalk Snow White Aqua Patina, gently blending it with a clean, flat brush.
With the trims now beautifully coloured and ready to shine, it was time for the final assembly! I applied a generous and even layer of WoodUglue to the back of each prepared trim strip. Remember, for a secure bond with WoodUbend, warming the trim beforehand is key. Once warm and coated with adhesive, I carefully positioned them onto my board, acting as striking vertical dividers between the dynamic stencilled sections and the captivating central decoupage. Any excess trim that extended beyond the edges was easily trimmed away, and a light sanding ensured a perfectly smooth and integrated finish.
Sealing and Finishing with Patina Extending Wax
Finally, to encapsulate all this glorious colour and introduce a subtle, luxurious sheen, I reached for the exceptional Posh Chalk Patina Extending Wax. Using a Posh Chalk Wax Extender Brush, I applied a thin, even layer over the entire surface of my newly created design board. This final step not only provides a robust layer of protection, ensuring the longevity of my creation, but also enhances the depth and richness of all the colours, leaving behind a beautiful, gently lustrous finish that truly brings the piece to life.
