Do you have a humble side table yearning for a glamorous makeover? Are you captivated by the timeless elegance of marble but looking for a more creative and personalised approach? Then prepare to be inspired! This step-by-step guide will walk you through an exciting upcycling journey, transforming an ordinary piece of furniture into a breathtaking faux marble masterpiece using the incredible range of Posh Chalk and Magic Paint products. Get ready to unleash your inner artist and create a statement piece that will be the envy of all your guests!

Step 1: Laying the Foundation with Magic Paint

Every successful upcycling project begins with a solid foundation, and for this transformation, we chose the exquisite Pepper Blue Magic Paint. This deeply pigmented, self-priming paint provides exceptional coverage and a luxurious matte finish, creating the perfect canvas for our artistic endeavours.

Before applying the paint, ensure your side table surface is clean and free from any dust or loose debris. For a flawless application, we highly recommend using the Posh Chalk Smooth & Blend Brush. Its densely packed, ultra-fine synthetic bristles glide effortlessly across the surface, minimising brush strokes and ensuring an even, velvety smooth coat. Apply one or two coats of Pepper Blue, allowing each coat to dry thoroughly according to the product instructions. This rich, sophisticated blue will serve as a stunning contrast to the faux marble top and the metallic accents we’ll be adding later.

Step 2: The Art of Faux Marble with Athenian Plaster and Colour Kicks

Now for the truly captivating part – creating the illusion of luxurious marble! This technique utilises the unique properties of Posh Chalk Athenian Plaster, a versatile and richly textured medium perfect for creating dimensional effects. To infuse our “marble” with depth and character, we’ll be using the highly concentrated Posh Chalk Colour Kicks.

Begin by decanting a generous amount of Athenian Plaster into three separate mixing pots. In the first pot, introduce the pristine Posh Chalk Arctic White Colour Kick, stirring thoroughly until you achieve a consistent, beautiful white hue. In the second pot, add the deep and captivating Posh Chalk Royal Indigo Colour Kick, again mixing until the colour is fully incorporated. For the third pot, embark on a little colour alchemy by combining both the Arctic White and Royal Indigo Colour Kicks. This will create a unique, soft grey-blue shade, adding another layer of visual interest to our faux marble. Remember, a little Colour Kick goes a long way, so start with a small amount and gradually add more until you reach your desired intensity.

With your three contrasting shades of Athenian Plaster ready, it’s time to bring your tabletop to life. Using a natural sea sponge, gently dab the different colours onto the Pepper Blue base. The key here is to work in slightly overlapping streaks, allowing the colours to subtly blend and interact with each other. Don’t strive for perfect lines; the beauty of natural marble lies in its organic, unpredictable patterns. Vary the pressure and the amount of plaster you apply with each dab to create a sense of depth and movement. Embrace the randomness and let your artistic intuition guide you!

Step 3: Polishing to Perfection with the Premium Finishing Trowel and Orbital Sander

Once you’re satisfied with the arrangement of your faux marble colours, it’s time to refine the texture and achieve that smooth, polished look. This is where the Posh Chalk Premium Finishing Trowel comes into its own. This high-quality tool is designed to effortlessly flatten the textured plaster, creating a sleek and even surface reminiscent of genuine marble. Gently glide the trowel across the tabletop, applying even pressure to smooth out any prominent peaks and valleys.

After the Athenian Plaster has completely dried and hardened – patience is key here! – the final step in achieving that authentic marble sheen is polishing with an orbital sander. Using a fine-grit sandpaper, gently sand the surface of the plaster. The orbital motion of the sander will create a beautifully smooth finish, enhancing the depth of the colours and revealing the subtle variations you created with the sponging technique. Be careful not to apply too much pressure; the goal is to polish, not to remove the plaster. Wipe away any sanding dust with a soft cloth to reveal your stunning faux marble tabletop.

Step 4: Accentuating Details with Prussian Blue Metallic Paste

To add a touch of understated elegance and highlight the intricate details of the side table’s structure, we reached for the exquisite Posh Chalk Blue Prussian Metallic Paste. This rich, deep blue with a subtle metallic shimmer catches the light beautifully, adding a layer of visual interest without overpowering the faux marble top.

Using a soft brush, lightly apply the Blue Prussian Metallic Paste to the decorative elements on the underside of the table. Focus on raised details and carvings to make them stand out. The paste’s creamy consistency makes it easy to apply precisely, allowing you to accentuate the table’s unique character. Allow the metallic paste to dry completely, revealing its subtle yet sophisticated sheen.

Step 5: The Golden Finale with Lemon Gold Metallic Pigments and Infusor

For the ultimate touch of opulence and to tie the entire piece together, we incorporated the radiant Posh Chalk Lemon Gold Metallic Pigments. To unlock the full potential of these highly concentrated pigments, we mixed them with the specially formulated Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor. This medium binds the pigments beautifully, creating a smooth, flowing metallic paint that’s a joy to work with.

With a fine brush, carefully apply the Lemon Gold mixture to the edges of the faux marble tabletop. This delicate gold outline will beautifully frame your creation and add a touch of refined elegance. We also used the same golden mixture to highlight the small floral details on the underside of the table, creating a cohesive and luxurious aesthetic. The vibrant Lemon Gold adds a touch of warmth and brilliance, perfectly complementing both the Pepper Blue base and the faux marble finish.

This incredible transformation showcases the endless possibilities with Posh Chalk and Magic Paint products. By combining the rich colours of Magic Paint with the texture of Athenian Plaster and the dazzling effects of Metallic Pastes and Pigments, you can breathe new life into forgotten furniture and create truly unique, show-stopping pieces. So, are you ready to embark on your own upcycling adventure? Grab your Posh Chalk and Magic Paint, and let your creativity soar!
