The WoodUbend team has been brewing up some serious creative magic, and we’re thrilled to share our latest project: a stunningly customisation of one of our Posh Chalk Easter Egg Wooden Crafts that’s bursting with vintage charm and artistic flair. Forget mass-produced decorations – we’re diving deep into the world of DIY Easter decorations, transforming a simple wooden egg into a unique heirloom piece using the incredible power of WoodUbend mouldings, Posh Chalk decoupage, metallic pigments, and more!

Our journey began with a blank canvas – the delightful Posh Chalk Easter Egg Wooden Craft. Its smooth surface was just begging for a touch of artistry, and we were more than happy to oblige!

Layering the Magic: Paint, Crackle, and Decoupage Delight

We first laid down a rich, dark-coloured base coat using Magic Paint. This provided a dramatic backdrop that would beautifully contrast with the layers to come. Magic Paint is known for its excellent coverage and vibrant colours, making it a fantastic choice for base coats. To infuse our Easter egg with a touch of vintage character, we applied Posh Chalk Crackling Gel. This incredible medium creates a beautiful, aged crackle effect on your painted surfaces.

Instructions for using Posh Chalk Crackling Gel:

• Apply a generous, even layer of Posh Chalk Crackling Gel over the completely dry base coat of Magic Paint. The thickness of the gel will influence the size and intensity of the cracks.
• Allow the Crackling Gel to dry completely. This can take some time, depending on the thickness of the application and your environment. You’ll notice the surface becoming slightly tacky.
• Once fully dry, apply your next layer of paint (in our case, Sugar Paper and Cotton by Magic Paint) over the Crackling Gel. As this top coat dries, the magic will happen, and beautiful cracks will begin to appear, revealing the base coat underneath.

We then introduced two contrasting shades of Magic Paint to create distinct sections on our egg. Sugar Paper was applied over the dried Crackling Gel, allowing the crackle effect to beautifully emerge. The bottom section of the Easter egg was painted with the soft, elegant white of Cotton by Magic Paint. To add a touch of springtime beauty, we carefully selected a small, exquisite section from the Posh Chalk Bouquet of Flowers decoupage and applied it over the area painted in Cotton. We always recommend applying Decoupage on top of a white background like Cotton as it will help the colours of the design pop. Posh Chalk Deluxe Decoupage is renowned for its high-quality print and ease of application.

Instructions for applying Posh Chalk Deluxe Decoupage:

• Ensure the surface you are applying the decoupage to is clean and dry.
• Tear or cut out the desired section of the Posh Chalk Deluxe Decoupage. Tearing often creates a softer edge that blends seamlessly.
• Apply a thin layer of Posh Chalk Decoupage Medium to the surface of the Easter egg where you want to place the decoupage.
• Carefully position the decoupage onto the glued surface. Gently smooth out any wrinkles or air bubbles using a soft brush or a decoupage roller, working from the center outwards.
• Apply another more generous layer of Posh Chalk Decoupage Medium over the top of the decoupage to seal and protect it.
• Allow the decoupage to dry completely.

Elevating the Elegance with WoodUbend Trim TR710

To add architectural interest and a touch of sophistication, we chose the stunning WoodUbend trim TR710. These flexible and heat-bendable trims are perfect for adding intricate details to any project.

Instructions for Pre-painting and Applying WoodUbend Trims:

1. Prepping the Trim: Before adhering, we pre-painted the WoodUbend TR710 to perfectly complement our Easter egg’s colour palette. You can use Magic Paint, acrylics, or any paint suitable for wood.
2. Heating the Trim: To make the trim pliable, gently heat it using a heat gun or hairdryer. Keep the heat moving to avoid scorching. You’ll notice the trim becoming flexible.
3. Shaping (Optional): If your surface is curved, shape the heated trim to match the contours of the Easter egg.
4. Adhering the Trim: Apply a strong wood glue (like WoodUglue, available on the WoodUbend website) to the back of the heated and/or shaped WoodUbend TR710.
5. Placement: Carefully position the trim onto the Easter egg and press firmly.
6. Cooling and Setting: Allow the glue to dry completely. The WoodUbend trim will cool and set in its new shape, securely adhered to the surface.

Adding Luminous Details with Posh Chalk Metallic Pigments

To bring out the intricate details and add a touch of luxurious shimmer, we used Posh Chalk Lemon Gold Metallic Pigments. These highly concentrated pigments create dazzling metallic highlights.

Instructions for Mixing and Highlighting with Posh Chalk Pigments:

1. Mixing the Pigment: In a small dish, mix a tiny amount of Posh Chalk Lemon Gold Metallic Pigments with a Posh Chalk Infusor or a clear acrylic varnish. Start with a small amount of pigment and gradually add more until you achieve your desired intensity.
2. Highlighting: Using a fine brush, carefully apply the mixed metallic pigment to the raised details of the WoodUbend TR710 and subtly around the edges of the decoupage. This will catch the light beautifully and add depth to your design.

Creating a Vintage Aura with Posh Chalk Patina and Extending Wax

To complete our transformation and enhance the vintage aesthetic, we employed Posh Chalk Black Patina and Posh Chalk Patina Extending Wax. Patinas add depth and age to your projects, while the extending wax allows you to control the intensity and workability of the patina.

Instructions for using Posh Chalk Patina and Patina Extending Wax:

1. Applying the Patina: Using a brush or a soft cloth, apply a small amount of Posh Chalk Black Patina to the areas where you want to create an aged effect, such as around the edges of the decoupage, over the WoodUbend trim, and in the crevices of the crackled paint.
2. Extending and Blending: If the patina is too intense or drying too quickly, mix a small amount of Posh Chalk Patina Extending Wax with the patina. This will make it more workable and allow for smoother blending.
3. Removing Excess: Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently wipe away the excess patina, leaving it settled in the details and crevices to create shadows and highlight texture. You can control the intensity of the aged look by how much patina you wipe away.
4. Sealing (Optional): Once you are happy with the patina effect, you can seal it with a clear varnish if desired.
