Applying Decoupage paper
We always recommend that decoupage paper is applied to a light surface to allow the colours to pop. So after cleaning the piece our first step was to paint our surfaces white. You could use any light or white colour to give a good base for the decoupage papers. We encourage you to experiment and have fun!
Using the Posh Chalk Pigment Infuser, once the paint was dry, we covered the surface ready to adhere the decoupage paper. The Decoupage paper we used was the Posh Chalk and House of Mendes Deluxe Decoupage Paper in Apple Blossom and Orchid. It was part of our Spring collection and they have been a huge hit with our customers! You all love them as much as we do! When applying our decoupage paper to a surface you have time to place it where you want, you can lift it off and recenter a few times without compromising the paper. Once the decoupage paper is in position apply another coat of the Infusor, this helps it shrink back to the surface consolidating it and protecting your hard work.
TopTip: use a wet paintbrush draw a ragged edge on the paper and tear along the wet edge. This works great every time.
Applying WoodUbend Trim
The next step in this project was applying the WoodUbend trim TR700 to the decoupage table. For best results every time , follow the 5 simple steps below.
- Heat the moulding: using a heat gun, hair dryer or electric griddle.
- Apply glue to the surface or back of the moulding
- Stick the moulding into place
- Re-heat the moulding whilst in place
- Press the moulding tight to the surface to ensure complete adherence
When warm, WoodUbend mouldings are so easy to shape around any surface, including corners which creates a seamless effect and because of how pliable it becomes, it is so simple to repair gaps or breakages by simply moulding two pieces together.
Blending on decoupage paper
Did you know our latest collection of deluxe decoupage papers was designed to colour match our Posh Chalk metallic pastes! This means blending the edges of your decoupage projects is now seamless. For this design, we used a few colours in the Posh Chalk Smooth Metallic Paste range. Our next step was to blend the decoupage into the surface using Posh Chalk Smooth Metallic Paste in the colours Deep Gold, Green Dark, Black Carbon and Green Bronze. We blended this using a Posh Chalk stencil brush and stippling the colours into one another. This is so satisfying and everyone can do this! Be creative and have fun with colour.
Add a touch glam with Posh Chalk Pigments
The decoupage table was looking good, but missing that little something something! so the final step was to dry brush the WoodUbend trim with Posh Chalk Pigments in Byzantine Gold. Just to give a little shimmer to this elegant project. There is many beautiful shades of gold and metallics in the pigment range and any one of them would have worked well on this project. Byzantine Gold has a slightly darker, older gold tone to it, rather than say the Lemon Gold which is bright and new looking. We mixed our Posh Chalk Byzantine Gold Pigment with our Posh Chalk Infusor, this ensures you keep the full metallic brilliance.
