Are you ready to infuse your next project with the timeless glamour of Art Deco? Get ready to be inspired! Today, I’m diving into an exciting journey of transforming a plain board into a stunning Art Deco design board using the magic of WoodUbend mouldings and Posh Chalk products. This project is packed with techniques that will elevate your crafting game and leave you with a show-stopping piece.
Building My Cracking Canvas

My journey began with laying the foundation for our vintage-inspired Art Deco design. The goal was to create a beautiful, naturally cracked backdrop, and here’s how I achieved it. I kicked things off by applying a base coat of Vintage by Magic Paint. I made sure to apply it smoothly and evenly with a Posh Chalk Smooth and Blend Brush, which is fantastic for achieving a seamless finish and creates a perfect canvas for what’s to come. Next, a layer of Posh Chalk Crackling Gel went on. This incredible product is key to achieving those authentic, aged cracks. After the crackling gel, I applied a layer of Cotton by Magic Paint, also using a Posh Chalk Smooth & Blend Brush. The secret to my quick progress was force drying between each layer, which allowed me to move directly to the next step without waiting around. With these steps, I created a gorgeous white backdrop adorned with naturally formed cracks – the ideal setting for my Art Deco design board!
Decoupage Delights and Divine Details

Now for the showstopper – introducing the captivating Posh Chalk Flower Maiden Deluxe Decoupage paper! This paper features four distinct “flower maidens,” and I carefully selected two that perfectly complemented the colour scheme I wanted. I meticulously cut out the two flower maiden sections I wanted to feature on my board. To apply these decoupage sections to the board, I used Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor and a Posh Chalk Smooth & Blend Brush. I first applied a thin and even layer of Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor to the part of my board I’m adhering it to. Then, I gently lay the paper down and smooth out any bubbles with my brush or a soft cloth before applying a more generous layer of Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor on top. I made sure to leave a central section blank – this is where the WoodUbend magic comes in!
Crafting a Statement Centrepiece

This is where WoodUbend mouldings truly shine, adding incredible dimension and intricate detail to my Art Deco design board! For this project, I started with a pair of WUB2103 Mouldings. These are fantastic because like all WoodUbend mouldings, they are made of real wood but become super flexible when heated. I carefully cut out the oval-shaped piece from one of the two mouldings; you can easily cut them using a craft knife or even scissors once they’re warm.
Now that I had customised my mouldings to my liking, I got them ready for adhesion. To make them pliable I simply heated them up with my heat gun thoroughly. While they were warm, I applied WoodUglue generously to the back of the fully intact moulding and pressed it into place. I then did the same for the moulding I had cut the oval piece from, arranging it so that it looked like it was connected to the oval piece of the intact moulding I had just adhered to the surface. Once I was totally satisfied with how these were positioned, I heated both pieces in situ and pressed them down firmly finalising the application.
To further define this central section and separate it from the decoupage, I created a border using WoodUbend Trim TR745. First I heated the trim in it’s coil until it became flexible. I then applied WoodUglue to my board in the area my trim will sit before carefully laying it down to create a crisp, elegant border. This trim adds a touch of sophistication and really ties the entire Art Deco design together.
Metallic Magic and Patina Perfection

These final touches brought my Art Deco design board to life, adding depth and that coveted vintage feel. I applied a combination of Posh Chalk Brown Van Dyke, Red Alizarin, Dark Green, and Green Bronze Metallic Pastes to the central section, including the moulding and trim. A Posh Chalk Mouldings Brush was perfect for this, and I continuously spritzed the area with water to aid the beautiful blending. To make the WoodUbend moulding and trim truly pop, I then mixed Posh Chalk Bronze Alloy and Orange Gold Metallic Pigments with Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor gradually until I was happy with the consistency I had created. Posh Chalk Metallic Pigments are highly concentrated, so a little goes a long way! This shimmering mixture was then lightly brushed over the raised areas, catching the light and highlighting the intricate details.
Finally, to complete the vintage look, I applied a generous amount of Posh Chalk Black Patina on the outside edge of the two trim strips. This was then feathered out using Posh Chalk Patina Extending Wax and a Posh Chalk Wax Extender Brush, and any excess was wiped away. Posh Chalk Patinas are perfect for adding an antique or aged look; I always apply a small amount where I want the aged effect, then use the Posh Chalk Patina Extending Wax to blend and soften it for a seamless fade. This technique created a beautifully aged and sophisticated finish.
The Result!

And there you have it – a stunning Art Deco design board brought to life with the incredible capabilities of WoodUbend and Posh Chalk products! This project showcases how easily you can combine these materials to create truly unique and captivating pieces.
