At WoodUbend, we’re passionate about helping you breathe new life into forgotten furniture pieces. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of upcycling a dresser or other old pieces of furniture into stunning statement pieces that reflects your unique style. In this two-part series, we’ll walk you through an incredible upcycling journey, showcasing how easily you can achieve professional-looking results with WoodUbend and Posh Chalk products.
Let’s dive into Part 1 of this exciting transformation!
Embellishing with Elegance

Our project began by adding exquisite detail to the dresser’s large drawers. We selected two WUB1258 mouldings and warmed each of them with a heat gun thoroughly until they became pliable. We then applied WoodUglue to the back and carefully positioned one moulding on centrally on each of the wide drawers, with one upside down so they mirrored each other. Once in place, we pressed firmly to ensure adhesion.
Next, we continued enhancing the dresser’s front panel with two WUB2103 mouldings. We again warmed the mouldings until they were flexible, applied WoodUglue to their entire footprint and then strategically placed them on the left and right edges of the front. These were also positioned as mirror images, with their smaller ends touching in the centre. These adornments instantly elevated the dresser’s aesthetic, adding a touch of bespoke craftsmanship.
Striking Stripes & Stencilled Sophistication

With the WoodUbend mouldings firmly in place, it was time to bring the side panels to life! We started by painting them in “Enjoy” by Magic Paint, using a Posh Chalk Smooth & Blend Brush. This brush is fantastic for achieving a seamless, even finish. After the paint dried, we gently sanded the surface. This crucial step ensures a perfectly smooth canvas for our upcoming stencil work, guaranteeing crisp lines and sharp designs.
The vision for the side panels included elegant stripes. We meticulously measured and used painter’s tape to outline where these stripes would go. For the stripes themselves, we turned to the luxurious Posh Chalk Metallic Pigments. We mixed Posh Chalk Bronze Alloy Metallic Pigment with Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor to create a stunning metallic paint. This was done by adding a small amount of the dry pigment to the infusor and stirring until we achieved a smooth, paint-like consistency.
This mixture was then applied within our taped-off sections using a brush, creating six beautiful bronze stripes with five equally sized segments in between. The tape made this process a breeze, ensuring all stripes were perfectly uniform – no accidental widening here! Once the metallic stripes were dry, we carefully peeled off the tape, revealing crisp, clean lines.
But we weren’t done yet! We then introduced the exquisite Posh Chalk Delicate Trellis Premium Stencil. Placing the stencil precisely between two of the Bronze Alloy stripes, we used a Posh Chalk Stencil Brush to stipple the intricate design onto the surface. To do this, we loaded the stencil brush with the Bronze Alloy Metallic Pigment mixture and stippled it onto the stencil. This process was repeated until we had filled the space in the second from the left and fourth from the left segments, leaving the other three segments blank for a balanced design. This entire process was then replicated on the other side panel, ensuring a cohesive look.
Front Panel Flourishes

With the side panels gleaming, we moved our attention back to the dresser’s front. We painted the entire front panel including the mouldings we had already applied in “Enjoy” by Magic Paint using a combination of the Posh Chalk Mouldings Brush (excellent for getting into the intricate details of the WoodUbend mouldings) and the Posh Chalk Smooth & Blend Brush for the flatter areas.
Once the paint was dry, we recreated the same stunning stripe pattern on the front panel using our Posh Chalk Bronze Alloy Metallic Pigment mixed with Posh Chalk Pigment Infusor. After creating the segments, we applied the same Delicate Trellis Stencil in four of the newly created segments. This was applied the dresser’s ‘skeleton’ with the drawers removed, using the same stippling technique with the Posh Chalk Stencil Brush as before.
To truly tie the entire design together and give the WoodUbend mouldings an extra touch of glamour, we then lightly brushed our Bronze pigments over the tips of the mouldings we had adhered to the front. We did this by picking up a tiny amount of the mixed Bronze Alloy pigment on a dry brush and gently sweeping it across the raised areas of the mouldings. This subtle touch highlights the intricate details of the mouldings and perfectly complements the bronze stripes and stencilled designs.
